This is a beautiful, extremely rare, and very interesting Puritans antique historical religious persecution novel set in the 1600s. It is a very early printing in exceptionally nice condition, assumed to be published in 1894 or earlier based on the gift inscription, entitled "For Faith and Freedom" by Walter Besant.
It is mostly clean, bright, and very readable throughout with a only a few spots of browning/foxing typical from age, and no apparent significant tears or markings except a neat gift inscription at the front that reads "James Van Fleet Jr., Galena, Ohio, Dec 25, 1894, A Merry Christmas, From Charlie."
This wonderful old vintage book from the late 1800s is still entirely bound, has a red cloth hardcover with gold gilt labeling and ruling on the spine, brown decorated endpapers, was published by A.L. Burt, New York, and has 356 pages plus advertising.
The only other apparent damage to the book is light soiling and wear to the cover and spine to be expected from handling and shelving, but minimal, and in beautiful condition otherwise.
Overall, an early, extremely scarce, and fascinating historical tale told through the eyes of a Puritan girl in dialect of the period set after the Restoration when in 1662 the Act of Uniformity drove 2,000 ministers of religion out of their churches, that would be appreciated by anyone who enjoys reading or collecting old and rare books, especially works relating to the Puritans or religious history.
